İlter Paydur said, “HSP is a disease that occurs as a result of inflammation of small vessels in children and usually manifests itself with red rashes on the skin. These rashes can appear on the legs, ankles, and fingers and do not fade with pressure. HSP can cause swelling and pain in the joints and bleeding in the intestines and kidneys, resulting in bloody stools and urine. The disease is generally more common in children aged 5-15 and in men. Although the exact cause is not known, it is thought that microbes may be the trigger since it occurs after upper respiratory tract infections. It is also defined as an allergic reaction that can develop after insect bites and food allergies. “HSP is not contagious and usually heals within 4-6 weeks,” he said.

Pointing out that after the symptoms appear, a specialist should be consulted immediately. İlter Paydur made the following recommendations:

“As for treatment, if the disease has not affected the intestines, kidneys or joints, it is usually treated with painkillers. However, if these organs are affected, it can lead to serious complications, causing kidney failure or seizures by affecting the brain vessels. In this case, hospitalization may be required and long-term cortisone treatment may be applied. Because of the potential dangers of HSP, it is important to see a doctor immediately if your child develops symptoms such as a rash on the legs, bloody stools, or red-colored urine.”
