A group of officers from the New York Police Department, both on foot and riding motorcycles, accompanied the body of their fallen comrade, Jonathan Diller, to a church on Long Island for his funeral service on Saturday. The somber sounds of bagpipes and drums welcomed Diller’s arrival at Saint Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church in Massapequa Park, New York.

“The entire city is grieving the loss of a police officer. The many police officers gathered outside are mourning a brother in arms. But Stephanie and Ryan are mourning the loss of their world,” stated Reverend Michael Duffy, mentioning Diller’s wife and 1-year-old son during his sermon inside the church.

Diller, aged 31, was fatally shot on Monday during a routine traffic stop, making him the first New York City police officer killed in the line of duty in two years. The funeral service on Saturday followed two days of wakes that saw thousands of visitors paying their respects, including former President Donald Trump, Governor Kathy Hochul, and Mayor Eric Adams, who also delivered remarks at the funeral.

In her tribute, Diller’s widow honored his commitment as a father, police officer, and husband. “He was always honest and straightforward, so I will be too. This loss is devastating. It is a profound and tragic loss,” Stephanie Diller expressed.”
